Week Links [6.28.20 or so]

Good day, sunshines! This is only…three days late. That’s fine! And I’ve changed the name of this again because I can’t commit to anything! How I didn’t think of this extremely basic pun in the past 5 years is beyond me. And on that note, I’ve been writing this blog for five years. My how time flies when the world is falling apart.

You Need To Be Watching 'The Bold Type' | The Nerd Daily

  1. I started bingeing The Bold Type recently and *very Joan Jett voice* I hate myself for loving it!!
  2. Just discovered this ethical jewelry brand out of Portland. So affordable and stylish! I love these for my 2nd piercing and these are incredible. I’m also just a big ol’ sucker for a hammered hoop! Also, this might sound crazy but I think I’m going to become an anklet person?? I just got this one and I love it.
  3. I almost bought these Pride Pumas because I’m predictable.
  4. Ziwe Fumudoh has been doing the most iconic Instagram lives and watching the reposts is one of my singular sources of joy in this terrible world!
  5. I’ve long wanted to become a headband person, but I have impossible hair and wear glasses, so things about the ears can be a bit tricky. This Madewell scarf/band is a DREAM. It actually stays in place and is so, so cute.
  6. This TED Talk was assigned for my Library Science course, and man do I love me some Adichie.
  7. Ronny Chieng’s special Asian Comedian Destroys America! is incredible start-to-finish.
  8. This brand sells bra bundles that are super affordable, but I’m so skeptical that a comfortable strapless bra can exist! At least not with my difficult boobs.
  9. My faves at Girlfriend just dropped the Summer Orchard line, so I got myself a full Lemon set: Paloma Bra, Skort, and High-Rise Bike Short.
  10. Cynthia Nixon posted this to Instagram and…I didn’t think it was possible to love her more.
  11. Psst…have you read my friend Rachel’s writing? She writes about TV so much more intelligently than I do, it’s a treat.

In case you didn’t know, I have an Instagram account for this blog, @dellabitesblog. I wrote a little something about the five-year anniversary of this blog there. You can also following me personally on all socials @highwaytochel / IG.

Crush Crush Crush

Damn, Chelsea! Back at it again with two posts this week!

I know. I’m trying to be better (she says to her non-existent audience).

I thought I’d share a few of my product crushes this week, which is somewhat ironic since I’m *truly* trying to save money. Tryna pay those college loans, you know?

Things I’m crushing on this week:

These. Motherflipping. Sunglasses.: I’m waiting for this style to come back in black because I am ON IT.

I mean, c’mon. Daily inspiration to slay the game.

This whole gosh-dang collection: Of COURSE it’s sold out. I feel like I’m being punished by the hip-hop gods for wanting merely to receive some of Rihanna’s essence.

P.S. Still shippin’ Ri & Drake SO HARD.

TFW you can’t rock pink fur slides like RiRi.

This collection too, because I am a weak garbage-pail of a person. Beyoncé is everything. Beyoncé is so everything that it feels trite even writing this sentence. If anyone’s going to get me to do hot yoga in a bodysuit, it’s Bey. How do I justify buying all of this?

This book, which arrived in the mail today because I pre-ordered on Amazon. I’ve been reading Anna’s blog for years, and she finally has a book out! I can’t wait to revel in her brilliance. I wish I had the stones to do a Spending Fast. Hey, when those student loan payments kick in, I just might have to!

This book TOO. I am counting down the minutes until I graduate because my books-to-read pile is getting way too tall. Augusten Burroughs has been one of my favorite writers since the love of my life (aka my college friend, Brian) introduced me to his work circa ’09. I can’t wait to see what he’s been up to lately—from the articles I’ve read, it’s bound to be a juicy read.

This book THREE. Jen Kirkman is my spirit animal. She once liked my tweet about a Nirvana song, and that’s really all I need in this life of sin. I don’t own her books yet, but they’re in my Amazon cue—you’re next, Kirkman. Her Twitter feed is basically Feminism 101—check that shit out.

And finally, this song. The Sirius XM station we’ve been listening to at work has been playing this on the reg, like they don’t even understand that I’m grieving. It’s so hideously cruel. But regardless of my personal Prince feels, this is the jam.

Going Green

So, as I may have mentioned here before, my fiancé and I try to be as environmentally conscious as possible. That means conscious choices such as recycling ALL the things, trying not to buy packaging that isn’t recyclable (or reducing the amount of packaging we buy in general), composting, making ample use of our garbage disposal, and using a water filter instead of buying bottled water.

However—that’s not what this post is about.

In addition to being “green” I happen to also love the color green. It’s my spirit color. My eyes are green. My birthstone is peridot. My teen bedroom was painted sage and my furniture was lime. I still default to green when purchasing everything from notebooks to throw pillows. I’m trying to be a little bit more neutral and mature in my decorating palette…but who said anything about my accessories?

My tuition refund from school has been processed (speaking of green!), so I decided to treat myself to a few presents before I have to do boring stuff with the money, like pay off my credit cards and save for my wedding.

Pack on Track Backpack in Kelly Green

I’m not a huge Modcloth shopper since my store buys from a lot of the same vendors that Modcloth does. However, we don’t carry Herschel Supply Co. goods. I think their minimalist style is so fantastic—it’s no wonder hipsters everywhere have glommed onto the trend.

I previously blogged about my Rebecca Minkoff dream backpack, the MAB. It is wonderful and will probably be buried with me, but I live in New England, so in the winter leather + outdoors = devastation. I knew I was going to have to get a second backpack that could stand up to a little snow. Finding this bag for 30% off on Modcloth, PLUS my Ebates cash back was a sign from the retail gods.

A word about Ebates: I had seen the commercials and was as skeptical as anyone. I blew it off for a loooong time. But my former boss who, like me, was addicted to shopping, told me that it has been an amazing resource to her, and to check it out. It’s literally free money, you guys. Just set up a (free) account, shop your favorite sites through Ebates, and then they send you a check (or a direct deposit) of a percentage of whatever you spend online shopping. That’s….it. Even 1% back on a small purchase is pennies that you wouldn’t have otherwise had. I highly recommend the service!

Solange x Puma Word to the Woman

Praise this. I slept on the last Solange x Puma collection, so when she released “Word to the Woman” I had to snag a pair. It was SO hard to choose a color/style, but in the end, I had to follow my heart and go with the green. It was just my luck that Nordstrom, which carries the shoes, offers free shipping, AND has 6% cash back on Ebates right now!

Now if we could get Solange to release more music…that would be a real treat.

Thanks for letting me share my current obsessions! I will be checking the mail obsessively for the next week!
